CHILD-RESISTANT LIGHTERS CAN SAVE LIVES

The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission warned that children under age 5 start more than 5,000 house fires each year while playing with cigarette lighters, resulting in approximately 150 deaths and 1,000 injuries.

Fortunately, manufacturers already child resistant butane lighters. Also, the commission has ordered that nearly all such lighters be made child-resistant (So called luxury lighters will be exempt from the standard).

If you use a lighter and are frequently in the company of small children, we strongly suggest that you purchase one of the child-resistant models already on the market They feature safety levers that must be pushed before the lighters will operate, and cost a little more than previous conventional models.
